Following our success last year with Joseph O’Connor’s Red Roses & Petrol, we have secured the rights to the Australian Premiere of his latest work, The Weeping of Angels.
The funny but poignant social commentary is set in an attic room far above Dublin, in the not too distant future. Three old women are perched together like rare and endangered birds. Sister Veronica, Mother Bernard and Sister Eugenia Barker have spent thirty years in this strange institution, watching through their window as the city far below has forgotten them. But as this Christmas Eve dawns, fate is about to intervene with shattering consequences, and the world they thought so still is on the brink of being changed forever. As we’ve come to expect or unexpect from Joseph O’Connor, this is a powerful drama of human emotion and frailty littered with very funny moments. The nuns are played superbly by Siobhan Wright, Ann Barker and Michelle Beaton with an excellent support cast.
