The Bridge.
The Bridge, a powerfully absorbing musical is coming this May. Written and produced by the talented Louise Helfgott, The Bridge is a mesmerizing fusion of heart felt drama, quirky comedy, impassioned music and song with energetic dance. With a mixture of professional and WA grown talent The Bridge will make you laugh and make you cry. Award wining director Karen Francis has injected her style of innovation to this superb script. The musical score was originally created by internationally renowned musician Boyd Wilson, Louise Helfgott and Denise De Marchi. Boyd has now teamed up with professional singer Tracey Dwyer to superbly enhance this musical feast. To add to this wonderful mix, The Bridge is complimented with interpretive choreography by Rebecca Boddy and a charismatic cast that will wow your socks off.
The Bridge is a moving story of a family that have become victims and by-products of our fast paced modern society. In striving to succeed, what has been sacrificed? The real tragedy is the realization that with misdirected priorities a child has been lost to an underworld of hopelessness and despair. Julie Coulter (Laura Williams) is a runaway who is swept into the brutal reality of life on the streets. Taking refuge with a gang of displaced youths, Julie is immersed into a culture that challenges her very existence.
Set under a bridge, we see the haunting symbolism that intertwines the lives and loves of each emerging character. It is difficult to present a theatrical representation of issues related to youth homelessness and still uplift and entertain but this production does it all.
Contains coarse language and adult themes.
