Corrie and Paul Bratter are newly-weds, just moving into their first New York apartment. Corrie is naive, enthusiastic and very much in love with her junior lawyer husband who is trying to start his career. The apartment is sadly lacking in home comforts which is evident to Corrie's mother who visits often to check up on the couple. In addition, an eccentric neighbour, Victor Velasco, who lives in the attic, is a cause of concern to Corrie as he is a reputed "lady-killer". Misunderstandings occur as Paul seems to be ignoring Corrie in the pursuit of his career and Corrie is playing matchmaker on behalf of her mother. True love triumphs eventually as Paul and Corrie meet half way in walking "barefoot in the park"
