After taking "The Rose and the Ring" to Thailand, Canada and the UK (including performances at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden), Midnite Youth Theatre will premiere this fractured fairy tale to audiences in Perth in April. Overseas audiences have attested to the sheer vitality and sparkling entertainment of this most colourful of productions.
Based on Thackeray's comic novella about a rose and a ring which make their owners irresistible to the opposite sex, this is a family show full of comedy and wonderful music. The action takes place in the kingdoms of Crim Tartary and Paflagonia with the rose and ring creating havoc among royalty and commoner alike. In true panto style, the road to true love has many twists and turns which makes for a zany musical with hilarious lyrics and dialogue complemented by delightful catchy music.
John Golding (Producer of "Victoria & Albert" on BBC TV) said: "The Midnite Company's The Rose and the Ring has given me the best night at the theatre I've had in many a year!"
Press comment on the original production ranged from "Its a blast .. really rocking ... rumbustious fun (The Independent on Sunday) to "gorgeous little extravaganza with a West End touch of class (Daily Mail).
Directed by Anthony Howes with Musical Direction by Tom O'Halloran, Design by Steve Nolan, Choreography by Peta Flanigan and Lighting by Josh Tomalin. Starring Sam Devenport, Monique Beaudoire, Lara Thew, Stephen Haimes, Dayal Singh, Claire Taylor, Samantha Young and Natalie Allen.
