After enduring centuries of bone-free cupboards Old Mother Hubbard has decided that she and her dog deserve a break so she arranges for her daughter Polly to marry the very rich, though very unpleasant, Duke Ferdinand. Polly, however, is in love with Dick, the poor woodchopper's son so they run away to seek their fortune. Unfortunately they fall into the clutches of the Witch Hepzibah who, having been beaten in her quest to become Queen and General Panjandrum of the Witches, Warlocks and Miscellaneous Monstrosities Union by the much younger Little Witch Barbie, now seeks a pure young maiden as a key ingredient in her cunning plan to regain her lost youth.......
If you think this sounds complicated, don't worry - it is.
But Curtin's Hayman Theatre under the direction of Tony Nicholls will, with the aid of songs, jokes, dancing, stupendous scenic effects and an especially commissioned musical score by Richard John, guide you effortlessly through this panoply of pantomimic paraphernalia with all the wit, style and exuberance that have made the annual Hayman Pantomime at Curtin, a tradition for many Perth schools, groups and families.
“Every year Tony Nicholls produces one of his own pantomimes at the Hayman Theatre. And every year those familiar with Nicholls' work trek along to the Curtin campus knowing that they are in for a deluge of painful puns, puzzling plots, cheerful songs and lively acting....This year is no exception. In fact OLD MOTHER HUBBARD could well be Nicholls' best pantomime –
and that's saying a lot for he is a master of the craft.”
- THE WEST AUSTRALIAN
