Artistic Director Michael Montgomery is pleased to announce Bondi BalletÂ’s fourth Sydney season, Bondi Spirit, a program of new works. Following its recent sell-out season and NSW regional tour, SydneyÂ’s hottest new dance company, Bondi Ballet, is excited to be presenting Bondi Spirit at the Bondi Pavilion from October 22.

Bondi Spirit will feature the world premiere of five short new works:

Following the popular success of James TaylorÂ’s Blokes based on the experiences of a damsel in distress and Bondi lifesavers, James returns this season with a work based on the modern mythology of Coogee. Our Lady of Coogee is based around the modern myth, which occurred at DolphinÂ’s Point in February 2003. Vision or illusion, the phenomenon at Coogee beach reached deep into Sydney's psych and attracted world wide media attention. Using state of the art technology and an especially commissioned score, Our Lady of Coogee looks at the spectacle of events and the documented repercussions of this mysterious event.

The 2003 winner of the Bondi Ballet choreographic competition, Jason Pitt returns from New York to present a new work, Tarkett. Jason has recently returned from training in the US with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre School. Jason Pitt’s ability to create self contained ‘worlds’ has resulted in Tarkett, a new work for Bondi Ballet, conceived more as a choreographic installation, the work flows in a torrent of movement inspired by the sea and the spirit of the land. Jason is regarded as one of Australia’s most promising young choreographers.

Artistic Director Michael Montgomery will premiere two new works, L'Esprit du Nijinski a tour de force solo performed by Patrick Harding-Irmer, set in the last years of the great artists life in a mental asylum the work is an exploration of the essence of Vaslav Nijinski, and Little Gods, a celebration of the divinity inherent in the human form, and a ritual initiation into Godhead. Fusing ancient Hindu techniques with 21st century world music, Little Gods fuses East and West in an original rite of passage.

Following his choreographic premiere last season, choreographer Michael Boyd returns with a new work titled One, is a collaboration with fellow dancer/choreographer Sue-Ellen Chester.
One spirit, three dancersÂ…

This vibrant new company showcases the hottest new dance and choreographic talent in Sydney, presenting original Australian works that push the boundaries of art and physical possibility.
