One of the worldÂ’s biggest quandaries has always been, what happens when we die? Is there really a heaven or hell? And if so, which way will you head? From July 31 at the Parramatta Riverside Theatre, prepare to discover what lies, "Beyond the Door". Do you dare enter?
Fresh from the sell-out season of "Go West" at the Riverside Theatre in February this year, Atropos Films and Anthea J Productions presents, "Beyond the Door", written and directed by Wayne Tunks.
Six young Sydneysiders (including Geoff Barker and Sam OÂ’Dell) suddenly find themselves in the waiting room of the Pearly Gates. Told to wait to by their cheeky host, Peter (Gary Tunks), the six begin to socialise while reliving their life experiences. They talk about love, life and sex, anything but their Christian beliefs, and they are certainly guilty of taking the LordÂ’s name in vain. As they form friendships and make foes, they begin to discover the true meaning of their own existence and they wait to be taken away individually for their judgement through the ominous door that sits behind them.
Lead Geoff Barker is best remembered as Commando from the "Gladiators" television show. Most recently he has published a novel with wife Bessie Bardot, who will be in attendance on opening night.
This is a comedic drama that is certain to have the audience laughing hysterically one moment, and reaching for their tissues the next. With a rich mix of social issues and pop culture, the audience will find characters to identify with, and characters to despise. They will no doubt find a character to remind them of themselves, of their neighbour and the kid who used to pick on them at school. Taking the audience on an emotional roller coaster, "Beyond the Door" promises to be both thought provoking and entertaining.
Wayne Tunks has his sights set on a long and productive career. His reputation as a leading independent theatre writer and director was consolidated with the runaway success of his very personal play, "Go West", earlier this year. Other productions have included, "Words like Freedom, Love and Betrayal" at the Riverside Theatre and the comedy extravaganza, "Aaaahhhh!!!! On the Aqua Queen". Wayne has just signed with top literary agent Selwa Anthony, and is currently writing his first novel.
