In 1945 Sheila and Bridie were freed from a Japanese POW camp deep in the jungles of Sumatra, where thousands had lived and died virtually forgotten by their governments. After a half-century separation, through the filming of a TV documentary, they relive the past, contact the present and question the future. A shoe-horn and the threads of loyalty and love form their "uncommon bond".
