Address Catch a train to MOJO's 237 Queen Victoria St, North Fremantle
'The Brick and The Rose' is having one performance only at Mojo's in North Fremantle on the 4th of July at 8.30pm. The play was written as a collage for voices and is infused with percussion and rhythm, brought to life by eight actors playing over forty roles. A tragic story of a young man who falls victim to illicit drugs, the play is a moving piece of theatre that follows gang politics and life on the streets. Written by prominent New York playwright, Lewis John Carlino, the play follows the young man's life, from his birth to his tragic death and illustrates the effect this has on his family and friends. This piece develops an unusual performing style using voice rather than costuming, movement or scenery to hold audience attention. The play has been directed in a Brechtian style, in which the actors do not physically relate to other characters on stage. The dialogue is both truthful and real, yet the actors never get to face one another to react to one anothers work, when trying to have an effect on the other actor it must all be done with the voice. The audience is essential to the play as every word is played to the front, creating a tie between the action and the audience.
The show runs for an hour and will be followed by live music from Calida Sari, Forth Floor Collapse and Autopilot.
