AddressNIDA Theatre
In 1988, Europe watched in fascination as televisions broadcast live-to-air the repeated escape attempts of the infamous serial killer Roberto Zucco from his top security gaol.
The following year, France’s most promising young playwright Bernard-Marie Koltes created a theatrical spectacle based loosely on the true facts of the case. In Koltes’ play, the young killer becomes a amoral hero, like Samson or Goliath – finding his true identity only through random acts of violence.
While the subject matter is, at times, shocking, the play is also laced with a black humour worthy of Samuel Beckett or Jean Genet.
NIDA advises that Roberto Zucco contains scenes of violence and explicit language. We recommend this production to adults over the age of 17 years.
