Comedy in which Léonide, a Spartan princess, loves Agis, the heir to her throne. Agis, however, has been reared by Hermocrate, a philosopher, and Léontine, his sister, who have taught him to despise both Léonide and love. Disguised as a man, Léonide enters their house.
She befriends Agis, woos Léontine, and at the same time reveals her true sex to Hermocrate, whom she pretends to love. Before long both Hermocrate and Léontine wish to marry her. Finally, she confesses the truth to Agis, and they leave in triumph to share the throne.
