DON'T MISS THIS ONE - IT REALLY IS... MAGICAL
The Fantasticks is a musical about illusions: the illusions of the young lovers, the illusions of their parents, the illusions of the old actors. But most of all, it is about the theatrical illusion itself, that tacit agreement between the artists and the audience to create an imaginary world together, to draw forth moonlight from a cardboard disc and by an act of mutual magic, to transform a few scraps of torn paper into gently falling snow. "On you imaginary forces work," says Shakespeare and that precept has been our guide. TOM JONES AND HARVEY SCHMIDT.
"The Fantasticks" curtain has come down at THe Sullivan STreet Playhouse, New York City after a record breaking 42 years. For those of you who will be experienceing this off-Broadway production for the first time be prepared for - as well as the 'borrowed theatrical devices' - the wonderful variety of musical genre's - ranging from vaudeville to operatic.
