AddressTheatre Eight, Eighth St Geraldton
The Canary Cage is an original Australian musical based on events that happened at the women's prison at Paramatta in the 1820s. The "Female Factory" as it was known was famous for a tea and sugar rebellion and it's Marriage Market days where settlers could choose a wife for the princely sum of five shillings.
The plot revolves arround the dashing Captain Peter Grange who is sent to Paramatta in disguise to investigate problems at the prison. There he meets Kathy O'Connell, a feisty Irish convict, and an unlikely love interest develops.
This is a delightful Aussie musical that we at T8 are pleased to premiere in WA.
The music was written by Les Patching and has been arranged for T8 by Rachel Vahala.
