The UWA French Club have been putting on an annual play since 1934. These productions have become an institution in the Perth French-speaking community, as the play is traditionally performed completley in the original french. This year, the UWA French Club proudly presents Moliere's last, and perhaps finest satirical comedy, Le Malade Imaginaire (The Hypochondriac)

This classic of French Literature is the story of an old man, suffering from numerous imagined ailments, who arranges for his eldest daughter to marry a doctor, in order to get free medical care for the rest of his life. Unfortunately for him, his daughter is already in love with someone else, forcing his overbearing housekeeper to come to the rescue. Throw in a gold-digging stepmother, an interfering sister, several quack doctors and even a couple of song and dance routines, and you have a biting satire of the educated upper classes in pre-revolution France.

Performed in the original French with surtitles.
