'Educating Rita' opens on July 26 at Kucom Theatre Complex, Shakespeare Street, Mackay & will be seen also on July 27.
Rita is a young British woman who decides that she needs more from life than what her humdrum existence provides, so she makes a big decision in her life and goes back to school, albeit against her husband's wishes.
Frank is an aging, alcoholic, professor of literature, who has obviously seen better days, and he is hardly in the mood to accommodate someone as brash as Rita, when she approaches him to be her tutor.
Frank (played by Mackay's Geoff Stewart-McLean) has found passionate and poetic things to write about in his past, but that's all gone and now he finds most of his consolation in the bottle.
Rita (played by Mackay's Donna Priddle) gradually changes all that and Frank finds himself coming back to life, being infected with her enthusiasm and her zest for that which he thought he had long left behind.
Kucom Theatre will showcase these two talents in Educating Rita this month in Mackay in what has been called a great comedy as well as a heart-warming, thought-provoking play.
Educating Rita is being directed by Maureen Coleman and will be shown at the Kucom Theatre Complex in Shakespeare Street, Mackay, on July 26 & 27, with both shows commencing at 8pm. Bookings are now open at the Mackay Entertainment Centre on Tel. 4957 1777.
