In the early years of the century, a diverse group of Russians meet, as they do every year, at their summer holiday retreat, at a point when Russions of every social class were beginning to sense the onset of a great upheaval.
While some are frightened at the prospect of change, some are angry, some yearn for a new life. But all are shocked by the responses their disputes reveal.
