Penny Productions is proud to bring you the first in a series of plays in pubs, or 'Two Pint Plays'. After the success of our last production, Withnail and I, we decided to scale things down a tad and perform one act plays in pubs. This style of theatre is very popular in England; beer and theatre seem to go hand in hand. Our first offering is The Zoo Story by Edward Albee, starring Matt Penny and Christopher Kenworthy.

The Zoo Story is a gut wrenching comment on human interaction. It's 'well-off New York' versus 'poverty-stricken New York'. Peter, a creature of habit, has a wife, two kids, two parakeets and two cats, while Jerry on the other hand, has nothing. (unless you count his pornographic playing cards and empty picture frames). It's a bright Sunday afternoon in Central Park and Peter is enjoying the tranquillity of the day when Jerry turns up. Jerry has come from the zoo and has a story to tell. Peter looks like the listening typeÂ…

We are trying to keep our plays fairly mainstream and around one hour in length. The idea is that you can have a beer, watch some theatre, and before you know it youÂ’re having another beer. The perfect combo.
