Kiss Me, Kate was the biggest hit of Cole PorterÂ’s illustrious career, and, one of the most popular musicals ever written. The story is based on a troupe of actors rehearsing and performing ShakespeareÂ’s The Taming of the Shrew. The score of Kiss Me, Kate, generally regarded as PorterÂ’s most dramatic, includes the hit songs Another OpÂ’ninÂ’, Another Show, Wunderbar, Too Darn Hot, and Always True to You in My Fashion. NIDA has enjoyed great success with musicals in recent years, including stand-out productions of Guys and Dolls and Pajama Game.
Kiss Me, Kate is the only musical theatre production in the NIDA play season for 2001, and it features all the current third year acting students. This will be the final student performance given by these talented young people before they graduate and begin working professionally in the arts entertainment industry.
NIDAÂ’s previous graduates have achieved highly both in Australia and overseas. They have received Australian honours; have been awarded more than 200 fellowships, scholarships and grants; and have won well over 600 international and national awards, including OSCARS, BAFTAS, EMMYs and film festival awards. The roll of NIDA graduates reads like a whoÂ’s who of the entertainment arts, and includes Mel Gibson, Judy Davis, Cate Blanchett and Baz Luhrmann.
