Pericles, Prince of Tyre is one of ShakespeareÂ’s later plays; a warm and deeply emotional romance in which time and the sea are agents of both destruction and healing. In a central father-daughter relationship, the child redeems her parent. PericlesÂ’ daughter is named after the sea, Marina. Like the sea, she destroys as well as revives. Marina teaches Pericles that life depends on loss.
