This is sooooo funny!!!!!!!!!!! Stumbled on this by mistake but wow its a classic! I cant cope that people who dont like brent street and care so little are spending all their preciously (supposedly) "TALENTED" time writing on this thread! If you think its shit- Dont attend classes there and certainly dont waste your time bitching about it. You obviously have no life and No CAREER! Der same old Walter Plinge. Not answering relevant questions. You kids need to go to school and learn abit about answering questions and being able to comprehend what you are reading. Well as an ex-staff member of Brent Street I will give my perspective on Brent Street. When Brent Street first started it was a one-of-a-kind institution. A family business which became well-known as a leading performing arts centre. It has always been dance-based and if you look at music theatre in this country it is also dance based, hence this is why you see many music-theatre performers who at one stage trained at Brent Street. When Brent street started it's full-time course it was the only one of it's kind and as with any monopoly quickly gained a reputation as one of the best. The family business quickly grew and expanded and before long moved premises to Camperdown and then became bigger and bigger. Not having a great deal of business sense the owners soon found themselves in deep financial trouble. The only way out of this was to take more full-time students - 100 in total (You do the math). They then made the move to Waterloo to their current premises which is frighteningly huge. Towards the end of last year full-time students were left with virtually no staff while administrators sorted out their financial mess. Staff were not paid salary for some 3 weeks. Brent Street was very close to being shut-down. I now believe that they have taken on another huge amount of full-time students to fund yet another move to fox studios. So having viewed this business from both inside and out and can honestly say that the standard has dropped dramatically over the years. Gradually the elite staff they once held have moved on to more stable institutions and standard of students attending the full-time course has significantly lowered. So I would suggest that the girls you have spoken to have indeed been duped by the Brent street past hype.

We all know that the perforning students have a great track record with winning performances. Yes I think everyone has heard about the financial mess and kids dont understand and dont know about that side. I would say BS are still trying to keep their feet on the ground and moving to Fox too soon may cause them to shut down. The kids unfortunately have tunnel vision and only see the side where they put in the hard work and they do well. This is great and good on them but it is not the basis for maintaining the school. Lets hope the BS administration can turn around their problems and get out of their financial mess and move on. I know many prospective students and parents are now very concerned over the future of Brent Street

what are peoples views on ed5

ED5 are not going broke and have never NEARLY closed. The concerns of most with BS is that you could pay yearly fees and lose it all if they become bankrupt, this is all heresay but it nearly happened last year and so far promises have been broken. And please-- it has nothing to do with talent or whos winning and beating who, its a financial problem. People are very wary but BS and ED5 both have a good program and talent. Make up your own mind

2588 have read this thread thus far and I presume a few have gone into it many times to see whats happening. Its sad to think a schools reputation could be Damned this way.

First of all, let me just start by saying that I can't believe this thread is still going. Seriously... how long has it been?... Now I'm all for people having an outlet to say whatever the hell they want, but having said that, I think this is getting a little out of hand. The thing that I find the hardest to understand is... why are so many people devoting their spare time to this. Surely people have better things to do than argue about who's dancing school is better than who's...??? It's like as soon as an eisteddfod finishes, all the vultures get on here and find anything they can pick at. This country has THE worst case of tall poppy sydrome, it makes me really confused. Shouldn't we just be celebrating the fact the these kids love what they do and are so passionate about this industry? Just because Brent Street seem to do well at an eisteddfod, is that justification for people to come on here and attack EVERYTHING about them? The kids at Brent Street are like any other students from any other school. They live for this. They love to dance, they love to perform and that's what it's about. Of course they have their little clique of friends and of course they bitch at eachother. We're talking about school aged children. How sad for them to come on here and see these things being said about them... On the business side of things... like any other company, mistakes are going to be made. OF COURSE Brent Street have made mistakes in the past, and there will undoubtedly be more mistakes to come. Someone show me a business who can say otherwise. The people who come on here who have been involved with Brent Street in the past, talking about how horrible it is, then I'm sorry you didn't find what you wanted there, and I hope you've found it somewhere else. To the students who are STILL at Brent Street and bagging it out... what are you waiting for?... You're free to leave aren't you?... Why stay where you're not happy?... There are bad things about it and there are great things about it. If it's not for you, then seeya later, have a nice life... At the end of the day... All I'm saying is that Brent Street is like any other school out there doing it's best. Everyone is different, no-one is perfect and it is impossible to please everybody. Why does it have to be made into such a big drama?

it seems to me that the success stories of brent street are way to busy with having a career than writing on this poisionous website's thread. Of course bitter and untalented wannabes have time to slag an insitution that produces some of this country's finest performers. I will be asking Brent Street's legal team to look at this website. Admin you have a responsibility to make sure people are not defamed in any way. I have counted many defamation comments (not only against Brent Street but in the last post re;DW301),in which people are referred to by name. You melbourne dancers are stuck in a time warp or something.. WHAT THE HELL DO THEY TEACH YOU DOWN THERE?? If you came to sydney and entered a competition, you my friend would be annihilated, not just by brent st but a large majority of Sydney schools. You people were so rude when brent st went to melbourne but i think you need to have a look at yourselves and compare what you do to the rest of the world in order to realise YOU'RE NOT THAT GREAT

I found out about this through word of mouth. It's really embarrassing to think that bitter ex f/t's have nothing better to do than bitch on a computer.. GO TO CLASS AND MAYBE YOU WILL WORK!!! Yes the advance class do get the better dance routines cause guess what they are advance.. No surprise there. You cant learn to dance in a year and i dont think anyone promised you that!! And as for the people in beginner dance class it doesnt mean you won't work.. In fact the girl who plays Penny in Dirty Dancing was actually an inter dance. She is now playing to audiences on the West End. The bottom line is you either got it or you dont. Move back to your home town, marry your first boyfriend that you winged about all through full time and yell price check on the only mike you will ever hold. Dont be bitter the industry eats you alive so you better learn to fight for what you love or leave and let the people who really want it through. later bitches xoxo

My daughter is attending the full-time course this year. She loves it !!! She was already an advanced dancer, singer and actor before starting, but is still benefiting from the course. They took in far less full-time students this year, because of some of the issues related to the number of enrolments last year. This seems to be working out well. There has been some criticism of the singing training received by the full-time students, but the group classes (twice a week) are working out just as well for her as the private lessons she had before moving to Sydney, and she believes her voice has actually strengthened this year. The fees ..... are what I would expect of a any full-time course. Furthermore when you break the fees down to an hourly or class rate they are very comparable to her old dance-school in the country. I've been a ballet mum for a long time, and I must admit that the dance/performing arts world is probably one of the bitchiest environments I have ever encountered. This website is living proof of that !!!!! So far this year has been a wonderful experience for her, and I hope that continues. Yes BS have had some problems and some disappointments this year, but it still seems to be "business as usual" for the kids, and that's great. All businesses have good times and bad times, and while BS may have had one of those bad times, it seems to on the mend. Please give them a break. Stand-back and watch this space and see what happens, I have faith in the current management and I can see that they are working hard to make it better. As far as the course goes, they teach much more than singing, dancing and acting, and the kids (either fulltime or part-time) just don't deserve malicious comments and inuendos which are currently being dished-out on these postings. As far as the graduating full-timers go, please stop putting them down. They are living their dream and will come out at the end of the year with much more than they started with. The rest is up to them.

As a mother you would know that kids are kids, they are all making malicious statements on this forum to each other and each is as bad as each other especially to reply to such stupidity in the first place. It is a part of human nature where kids are involved to 'have a go' at each other. You would know that only too well being involved with a ballet school. I dont believe any mothers comment will stop that plus it is only one side of this thread The other is the fact that many teachers have left, some teachers unpaid, full time students left half way through last year. As a mother of a child at BS you would not be made aware of any such situations. You and your daughter have not been anywhere else to compare either. Like someone else said if your daughter has talent it wont matter where she goes she will probably do well.

hey everyone...i am a current student at tdhs and brent st part time school and i just want to share my views on all of this... first of all i am actualli quite ashamed of those people who are sitting at their computers bitching about brent st..but quite amused at how pathetic you are too!! It truely amazes me how a director would allow her daughter to comment on a thread such as this but we all know how true that is. The last couple of posts are a repeat of previous posts on this site. If you forgot about this forum the interest and focus on BS will all go away. However, you BS students have to get the last word in, then it snowballs again. You are damaging your own school. I know how hard it is to read bad or untrue comments about your school but reponding only makes it worse. I really wonder what your director and teachers are telling you, I hope its - stay away from the forum, you are the ones damaging the reputation because someone is going to respond negatively and on and on it will drag. I am really disappointed that a mother (if in fact it is a mother) has made comment as that too is asking for further condemnation. Leave the thread alone- no one will respond if you dont. Who's beating who? Capital has competed against brent street once this year and that was at extreme. capital won the tap and brent street won the jazz(both sections) and now the open sections at city of sydney have finished who came out the winner brent street won everything and made the final of the jazz. Also brent street fulltimers do not enter extreme only the saturday kids who have a 1 1/2 hr jazz class a week so you are on even par. capital is an exceptional school and i am sure that kerrie and glen would be very disappointed if they knew their students were lowering the reputation of their school by joining in on this witchhunt of brent street. All dance schools have something positive to offer their students and everyone should concentrate on their own school and doing the best for them rather than worrying what is going on elsewhere.

I would think a GM would actually register on this site so that ppl actually know that YOU are YOU. However, what you say is right, noone knows who is posting and obviously if you had half a brain you would know that its not who you think they are or who they say they are.
