Hey I have just spoken to a couple of girls who have left Brent Street before they finished the performing arts course, they said its gone down hill. Does anyone in NSW know whats happening there. When you read some of the musical theatre programs that tell you where the artists have studied, some say Brent Street but have moved on to other teaching facilities to study musical theatre.
I was looking at Brent Street but they say its just a dance school with fifty or more to a class. Its alot of money to pay for "just a dance school" And not even their professionals are getting any work
umm well 1st of all .. brent street is the best school there is! the ppl there r soooo nice this includes the students and teachers..!! >. whoever writes this shit bout brent st. are obviously realli jealous that they cant b as gud as they r and thats y they need to make up these lame things bout it. get a life!
interestingly i have posted on this site under 3 different names( none of the nasty, negative ones ) so i hope anyone reading this realises that it could be the same couple of people churning the same stuff over and over. on most other web chat pages you can only register one name from the same email address. also i think it has to be remembered that we are talking about a group of kids - some very young - who are creative and hope to some how get into the performing arts, the key word here being KIDS. it is just impossible for everyone of them to be awful! i have had a small amount to do with brent street and have found everyone very helpful and friendly. anyone getting up and having a go deserves to be encouraged, no matter which school they go to. the comments about jacqui are awful. i hope she does care about making money, she seems to work extremly hard and deserves to earn a decent living. most of the big dance schools are trying to make money. nothing wrong about that. there are also plenty of small concerns going in halls etc that are set up purely for enjoyment and by teachers who do not want to dedicate their whole life to the dance school. everyone is looking for something different, surely one is not better than another, just different. if it is true that brent street used to be better- then fine. you can be sure that the powers that be are trying to impove it every day. if you are not happy with the level of teaching then vote with your feet and go to a different school that suits your needs more. one school is not going to suit everyone. just like one restaurant doesnt make everyone happy etc. thank goodness we do have choice!
lets all just remember that at the heart of this are a lot of kids who just love the performing arts. and remember the ages of them as well, is it really necesary to attack them? lets all try to encourage each other, and respect each dance school and the children and young adults who attend them .
DUDE BRENT STREETS FIRST OPEN AGE JAZZ SECTION THIS YEAR WAS NOT WARINGAH IT WAS LAST NIGHT AT EXTREME AND DONT SAY THAT YOU WERE OF A HIGHER QUALITY AND YOU BEAT US BECAUSE WE GOT 1ST PLACE 3 TIMES AND YOUR BLOG WAS POSTED EVEN BEFORE THE EISTEDDFOD SO DONT SAY ANYTHING OF THE SORT THAT YOU BEAT US THIS YEAR AND WHAT EVER JUST LEAVE IT AT THIS BRENT STREET ARE AS GOOD AS THEY EVER WERE AND I THINK YOUR JUST SAYING THIS BECAUSE YOU ARE JEALOUS AND THATS ALL I AM GOING TO SAY TO YOU FOR NOW!!!!!!!
Our First Open Jazz section was not extreme it was in melbourne last weekend but it doesnt matter capital werent even there and im sure if they were our quality would have still been great so dont make up lies it just makes you look really foolish........
I thinka ll you guys should not be saying anything anymore we proved oursleves last night we weeped the floor with our performances and i am just as proud as i ever was hat brent street is my dancing school
All this shows what passion there is in Sydney for dance. We should all be celebrating. I guess what matters is perception, not reality. It's good that Brent St get challenged...thats good for the industry. The perception is that Brent St slipped because it got too big, was too complex to manage for the management skills of the sisters and it was too hard to get into the performance groups. Also many teachers did leave as it was turning into a factory.
But the prooblem still exists...if you are a really good dancer, who also sings and acts, where do you go to take your skill level in all three disciplines to professional.
Its not NIDA or WAAPA. Its probably The Royal Academy, Chicago Performinbg Arts of NYCB. Sad really. The only measure of success is employment, and the roles are just not here.
We had a choreographer from Chicago stay with us in May. He watched the open Tap at Extreme. He was blown away by the standard. He said Capital, Brent St and maybe one of the others were as good as anything he has seen and we should get together and tour in the US. Now what about that?...a composite of say 40, and a killer routine. They do this for choirs and orchestras, why not for dance?
I think it's up to the industry to promte itself better, and its up to producers to put more shows on and give our wonderful, talented and passionate young people an opportunity to work in this industry. The audiences would be there I am sure.
Lets not permit the same thing as happens in classical, where only a handful ever get work, happen to the jazz and tap genres. Lets lean on Graeme Murphy to open up and do an AB in Sydney...a school...a funnel...a level higher with chances to perform. Imagine if the SDC was a school and did intermediate and open jazz, tap and contemporary, and entered the esiteddfods...wow! Heck, they need the money, they have the facilities...people would kill to audition...anyone in Graeme's ear here?

hey guys.... my name is maddison and i am currently a student at brent street studios.... i also attended their high school tdhs.... brent street is a great place to be for dancing, singing and acting.... not only have they gained teachers with excellence in their fields they also teach students how to dance and how to perform on stage.. the difference between brent street and any other studio is we r taught how to dance from our heart and soul not our mind and that is the one thing besides our high standard of dancing that makes us good..... people who sit there and say that brent street isnt goood and is going downhill i dont know what your talking about because the only thing that has gone down hill is the passion that our generation has for dancing... most people have become dancers my age due to their mothers pushing them at a young age so for them now they are realising that dancing isnt for them so thats why people are quitting.... i love brent street so much it gives off a great vibe and you gain so much knowledge from it....i am not saying this just because i am a brent streeter i am saying this as i have been to other dancing schools and none are like brent street.... the children today who r starting dancing should be wanting it not pushed into it otherwise eventually they will quite.... so please stop bagging out brent street.... we have done nothing to anyone else and we love what we do isnt that enough....

This is really sad and pathetic..I cant believe there is a site for this crap!!
We have lost some of our best students to brent st, we are not going to get bitter about it.It happens. People go to school, they dont get the right education,do you blame the school or do you think maybe it had something to do with your attitude?
I attended brent st full time, it was the best year i became a stronger performer,a stronger person spiritually.Yes its hard when a teacher doesnt say hello,or doesnt acknowledge you. You have to prove yourself and get out there and show them that your good enough, that is with everything in life, its not handed on a silver platter.Every school has good points and bad.Instead of getting bitter about this whole subject, think back, why your bitter?Because your not where you want to be??Well instead of spending so much time on here why dont you go and do something about it? If you were happy where you were in life, you wouldnt write this shit, all it does is show how jelous you guys are.Sorry sweeties!!!Yes there are somethings i did and did not agree with, unfortunatley no-oone had yet to come up with a school that can fullfill every single students needs. So the bitter ex fultimers..did you really try hard and get what you deserved somehow i dont think so...Im sure that you would have been recognised if you had constantly shown how much you want this..they are investing in you ,so you have to prove yourself! As kelly abbey once said and i will always rememeber "Dont wish, be it"
You came in your hundreds to Melbourne (CSTD) last month with your heads so far up your ass to trample the competition, but failed to leave any impact other than the lack of discipline and bang crash choreography that was displayed on the stage.
AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE BRENT STREET.
Don't even think about coming to SOUTH STREET as you will be annihilated!!!
My MY MY I cant believe the moderators have left such defaming comments on this site.
Whether you like jackie or not those comments are just awful.
The original comment about "What has happened to Brent Street" was posted in January 2006 then it lay dorment till April 2006 until this website got a makeover which listed previous topics and got ppl on the band wagon and stirred up again. Did people read what Denise Love wrote on the 1/2/06 on the topic. I am glad Brent Street faculty read what others have to say and act on it or do they.
It was February that they were going to move to Fox, havent they moved yet?? Why?
My darling Cameron has left? Why?
Did full time student Melissa go to the Moulin Rouge or is she still at Brent Street suffering with all the broken promises they have given her.
It is interesting how past students perceive Brent Street. I believe a certain amount of brainwashing is involved with those that stay. They become the 'golden haired' people who are made feel special by they faculty. But it is at their financial expense.
There is only a handful of really good talent there that do well in comps granted but have you seen the standard of the concert, very average. Those who are good would be good at whatever school they went to, if you are born with talent any good teacher can work well with you.
I do have to say that melb is really old fashioned I can understand that one.
Whow, this is pretty amazing stuff.
Obviously there is a problem here if it has stirred up so much unrest. I have not seen any other school get targeted like Brent Street. I did read what Denise Love wrote, hum, a few broken promises there!!.
There are different syles and standards that vary in each state when competing in competitions. South Australia and Western Australia do very well at Royal South Street, it would be interesting to see how Brent Street would fair.
John Cleary Dance School in WA creamed the likes of Bev Palmers school and Barbara Lynch by winning many items. To me Brent Street is more Hip Hop/Funk which would not suit south street but I could be wrong. A couple of interstate troupes hve tried at south street and were a laughing stock. You really need a very strong classical base and I dont see that as a specialty at Brent Street. I would look at Brent Street for back up dancers.
Why is it in auditions for touring musicals say like Dusty, in the audition process they tend to select those for WAAPA, NIDA of the bigger parts. That may just be coincidental but personally I dont take Brent Street seriously.
Prove me wrong and give me a list of Brent Street performers who have made big time just by training at Brent Street only. A few have gone to BS but have also studied elsewhere after, that doesnt count cos why would you go elsewhere if the training is so good.
Hey Rave,
Dont believe any crap that Mel has told you, she is so full of herself. She is the laziest person I have ever seen an a class but thinks she is the best and brown noses everyone. She has been offered nothing. Dont blame brent street for that one. I dont know how she even got past the audition but she said her dance teacher from Adelaide got her in. says it all really. She is the biggest pain in the ass
Hi All !!
Wow !..This site is ..hmm...funny??!!
Im a Brent St Kid..and always will be..n not afraid to admit it. Brent St atm is my life. i go to school there n also do after hour classes. I feel that alot of this 'talk' about Brent St going down-hill isnt true at all. In the end I FEEL Brent St is open to teach certain styles of dance, but mainly to find the performer within someones soul.Technique is something to be taught.. And yes you have your 'dance schools' based on technique that go well in alot of the competitions. But PERFORMING is something that can not be taught.. It can only be encouraged to 'be used'. Brent St isnt a dance school, its a performing arts school. You will NEVER find a person who performs from their heart like BSK's do. so yes, i do agree there are great DANCE schools out there, but no other performs like BSKs do. - Thanks Brent St for bringing out the real me !!!.....xx..Good luck to the rest
WHAT A BUNCH OF BITCHES IN MELBOURNE AND OMG GET SUM NEW SHIT I SWEAR ALL U GUYS AR ELIVIN IN THE 80'S WATS WITH THE PROPS I WAS LIKE WHAT THE HELL BRENT STREET IS SOOOOOOOO DIFFERENT NO WONDER WE DIDNT GET ANYTHING I MEAN A BUNCH OF 17 YEAR OLDS DOIN A DANCE TO A WHOLE NEW WORLD FROM ALLADIN DOIN SPRING POINTS WITH PIECES OF MATERIAL FALLING FROM THE ROOF I WAS SHOCKED I COULDNT BELIEVE WHAT CRAP WAS GOING ON!!
i have to say some of brent streets best dancers trained elsewhere before moving to brent street but a few of there good dancers also have been there since they were small
You know what BSK i think your right not alot of dance schools perform like brent street do but they are lacking in technique and thats why i think if they worked on it they could take it to the next level because everyone is a dancer and to make it as a great dancer you need to be able to peerform but if you dont have the technique it can work against you......
I was recentlky at the extreme eisteddfod with my dance school and we were in brents streets open section i also work with people who were in the dance and attend brent street and there dance was amazing it was rocky it was hip hop and i would not be surprised if that was straight out of a film clip me and my friends wre blown away as was the adjudacator i think as they came 1st. it was to a song i had never heard before brent street really does have its own style and thats why i think its so succseful if that is what brent street looks like when they are going down hill i would like to see another dance school beat them i am going with one of my brent street friends to watch them at city of sydney they really are contenders for 1st place after watching them at extreme i have been seriously thinking of attending Brent street
XOXOXOXOXOXOXO Lvya PRINNI
DONT ACT SO HIGH AND MIGHTY GUY CARRISON YOUR ALL WEIRD!!!!! aanniahlate is that you call it! i just think its coz we are so different ours is hip hop and yours well the full stage props and the sequent costumes reminded me of something out of the 80's movie fame how do you expect to make it into an idustry that's style is the complete opposite to you. The moves were stuff that dissapeared when the dinasours did GET WITH IT maybe ya'll should come to sydney and get some real schoolin hahahahahahhaha i can remember laughing at spirit fingers like wat the hell who does that hahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahhahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhahaahhaahhahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahah I PRAY THAT GOD WILL HELP YOU********
omg thats my jazz haha i attend brent street and im in that numba... did u like it dat much lol...its a gwd dancfe aye... whos ur friend btw?? hmb kk lve maddi
I am an ex brent st kid n full timer and lets be realistic. BS churns out the results with dances that give u goose bumps. However, like all dancing it is all political and a word of advice if you are not in Advanced classes then don't bother. Advanced classes get the best teachers and dances and this is what you see at competitions however it is half full of students who are favourites or have been there since they were babies.
Most F/T also are unemployed and scrap around to find work but this cannot be blamed on BS but the industry which has no decent work coming though in the last few years. So if you don't plan to move overseas and make a career for yourself then be prepared to work as a corporate dancer, mostly getting your hair cut funky for some cash!
I got a lot out of F/T and cannot take back the fantastic performing opportunities we recieved but be warned, if you are not a strong, bitchy female whose mother will push you to the front row then maybe this is not the place for you.
I feel your passion "Melbourne is Shit" my first comps in Melb with my kids I was amazed at the primative dances costumes and props. I danced at south street 30 years ago then took my kids there to compete and it has not changed. Same dances music etc etc and they still wear capes to cover their costumes, hello!!!! its 2006 not 1950
Dont be too let down cos Sydney is different to other states in there style. Thats how it is. Next time you may get an ajudicators who likes your stuff and its only one or maybe 2 peoples opinion.
Doesnt Brent Street do well in the McDonald Comps and 'The Showcase' finals in QLD. Im interested to know what classes go in these comps is it full time students???
BRENT STREET ALWAYS DOES WELL AT SHOWCASE WE ALWAYS HAVE ATLEAST ONE DANCE IN THE FINALS AND WE HAVE HAD MANY STUDENTS IN THE DANCER OF THE YEAR FINALS ASWELL.
WE ALWAYS GO WELL AT MCDONALD CHALLENGE AND THIS WEEKEND MOST OF US WILL BE DEFENDING OUR 1ST PLACES IN THE VARIOUS SECTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!11
MELBOURNE OMG WHAT A JOKE I COULDNT BELIEVE THERE STYLE WHAT THE HELL IS WITH THE SPRING POINTS......
WE ARE 2 BRENT STREET STUDENTS THAT HAVE BEEN AT THE SCHOOL FOR UP TO 13YRS, ARE REALLY INVOLVED IN THE COURSE AND ALSO ATTEND THEIR HIGH SCHOOL (TDHS) SO WE COULD SAY THAT WE KNOW WHAT THE CURRENT STATE OF BRENT STREET IS!
STOP THE BITCHING COS ITS ALL FALSE AND MAKES ALL YOU ATHOTHER DANCES FROM DIFFERENT SCHOOLS LOOK LIKE LOW LIVES!!!
THE PEOPLE THAT ARE STARTING THE RUMORS ABOUT BRENT ST ARE EITHER EX STUDENTS THAT HAVENT MADE THE TOP CLASS OR CENTRE FRONT OR DANCES THAT HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO WITH THEIR BORING LIVES THEN BITCH ABOUT BRENT ST.....
YES BRENT ST FULLTIME HAS LOST THE NUMBERS BUT BRENT ST HAS BEEN DOING IT FOR A REASON AND THAT IS TO GET THE STANDARD HIGHER AND A SMALLER ELITE GROUP!
BRENT ST IS STILL GOING STRONG AND IS THE HAPPIEST PLACE TO WALK INTO!!!
IF U DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT BRENT ST PLEASE DO NOT FOLLOW THESE POOR RUMORS MADE UP BY JEALOUS DANCES FROM DANCE SCHOOLS THAT DONT WIN COMPS..... COME AND FIND OUT FOR YOURSELVES AND FORM YOUR OWN OPINIONS!!!
THIS SITE IS BULLSHIT AND WHOEVER CREATED IT IS OBVIOUSLY SOME BORED LOSER THAT NEEDS TO GET A LIFE AND GROW UP!!!
FROM TWO STUDENTS OF BS!
PS....WE WON EVERYTHING IN EXTREME AND YESTERDAY WON CITY OF SYDNEY SENIOR MUSICAL THEATRE!!! SO TAKE THAT SHIT MUTHER FUCKERS.....
DOES THAT SOUND LIKE A SCHOOL THATS GOING DOWNHILL?
I DONT THINK SOOOOOOO
The site is so bullshit that you've wasted your time reading the posts and then responding to them...
Perhaps this thread should end. This is getting ridiculous and too heated.
We get it - some people like Brent St, some don't. Enough already.

I can relate to the Melbourne Comp issue.
I was from interstate and rocked up for my first solo in South Street Ballarat and all these teachers sitting side stage got up and left before I went on and I thought this was great cos for my first solo I didnt want the added pressure. Well, I won the section and OMG were these teachers so rude to me, they approached me and said I was lucky and I Should NOT have won. How rude.
For my next solo, here they all were, THE TEACHERS all side stage watching me and pushing each other out the way to get a look through the side stage curtains. What crap. Anyhow I won that one too. Ha Ha, so the ajudicator must have been wrong twice. I went on to win my age group aggregate and I felt like shoving the trophy in their face.
No interstater is good enough to them and didnt I laugh when I read on this site that a WA dance school beat these high and mighty people.
The Vics are telling you to stay away from South Street cos they are scared you might beat them. I would love to see the jazz sections.
They thought I was a nobody from interstate but hey there is talent outside Victoria. LOL LOL LOL
To the Brent Street Biatches aned Brent street management
Your students comments has sumed up your dance school.
It is great you have won but the attitude from the students reflects the nature of the school. Disgusting
No wonder it has a bad name when comments are publically displayed like that I hope management follows this through and chases the IP address of the user to find out who it is.
Everyone has an opinion and Na has said it all. I think maybe some investigating wouldnt go astray.
Yep it sounds like a school going down hill to me. I agree with the last few posts enough is enough
Your not safe by commenting with a silly user name because as Ding Dong said an IP address is specific to the computer you are using.
THEY WILL FIND YOU. How do you think they find wacko's and hackers IP addresses
Even if you use a internet cafe you are not safe. AHHHHRRRRRR Im starting my search now.
I HAVE AN ASSOCIATION WITH BRENT STRRET THROUGH A PERFORMER THAT ATTENDS THE SCHOOL. I DONT REALLY HAVE ANY LOYALTY TO THE SCHOOL BUT FROM WAT IVE SEEN ITS A GREAT SCHOOL AND I KNOW THE PERFORMER THAT ATTENDS COULDN'T BE HAPPIER! THEREFORE THE ONES THAT WRITE IN TO THIS SITE BAGGING OUT BRENT STREET ARE JUST OLD HAS-BEEN'S OR JUST PERFORMERS THAT THINK THEY CAN MAKE IT BUT IN REALITY THEY'VE GOT NO CHANCE CAUSE THERE JUST NOT UP TO THE STANDARD SO THE ONLY WAY FOR THESE LOSER'S TO MAKE THEMSELVES FEEL GOOD IS TO WRITE IN THESE LAME COMMENTS. TOTALLY JEALOUS FOOLS, GET OVER YOURSELVES AND GROW UP.
im not a peroformer in any way, shape or form. last week i lost a leg in a solo car accident. iv'e got no excuses and no one to blame...... so i may as well blame BRENT STREET.
brent street helped me hide weapons of mass destruction from the u.n. they are the best. i will give them 1 oil field if they can release me from captivity
sorry I don't agree with that last comment of yours. I certainly don't do that. I think it also works on talent and if you have it good if you don't then your disappointed.
I am a past student and let me tell you the school has gone down hill since I have been there. I have now perfomed Londons West End and no thanks to BS.
You dont know the circumstances as to why I left nor do you know why other past students have done the same so if you dont go there you cant make comment.
Lets just say that some legal issues have been discussed.
So dont make comment when you dont know facts
Surely management at BS have seen this site.
What is there response, why hasnt it been removed from the site.
All I can cermise is that things are not going well and people are venting on the forum.
