Finley Winners - Congratulations!
Sun, 20 Jan 2008, 11:33 amCongratulations to all the nominees and winners last night. Special hat tip to Darlington Theatre for the taking out Best Play & Director. Its great to see Goldfields with some awards in their luggage to take back home as well.
The ITA comittee is to be commended on organising an excellent evenings entertainment.

The Click??
Hello again,
This really does sound very interesting. I have been scanning through most of this site this morning and there seems to be a lot of quarrels. Is this common between theater clubs/groups? Is there a lot of rivalry between individuals? My research on Perth over the last month has unveiled quite a lot of social issues across the board.
What I am reading or what is coming across in many of the threads is pretty much the same thing. Artistic opinion or temperament. I am not a director/Actor/Producer, I am a young fresh journalist, so please forgive me if I sound naive. I understand what you mean by THE CLICK, Ripper (That really can not be your name) but, surely there is a click (as you put it) system within any organisation? Sitting back and reading these threads is extremely entertaining. So thank you.
Don

Have we spoken since then?
What did we discuss? Have we spoken since then? How do you know I've changed? According to your definition I must always have been a member of the click. What does 'The Sum of Us' have to do with it? Yes, it was a great production, with great directing, but none of it was my work. The direction was a joint effort by Danni Ashton and Phil Barnett. By the way, that meeting I mentioned is being held at The Old Mill. If you really are as unhappy as you seem to be, why not come along? It might help - both sides.

Hello Donald
Hello Donald.
Yes, of course there is rivalry - between individuals, and between clubs. Almost all of it is good natured. All the clubs support and help eachother with props, costumes, etc. If you really take note you will realise that the quarrels are almost always started by indivuals who feel they have been left out, passed over, ignored, treated badly, whatever. The vast majority of people involved in Theatre here in Perth never post any comments at all. Most of us are competitive - surely that is healthy? The only way for any of us to improve our standards of performance, whatever our particular field may be - and mine is now mainly directing - is to see what others are doing and then strive to do better. That is what we do. But most of us also exalt in the achievements of others. There are a few unhappy individuals who can only get noticed by being bitter and angry, and they are the most vocal ones. I'm glad we are keeping you entertained - that's what theatre is for! If you would care to email me privately I would happily fill you in on the details of how the Community Theatre scene here in Perth works. Regards, Sue.

Don, this is not a quarrel
Don, this is not a quarrel - this is one person trying to stir up trouble for whatever personal reasons (probably boredom). You'll find people like that on any forum-based website.
It does not reflect theatre communities at all. Yes, there are sometimes disputes, but that is just like any other part of life.

Here we go agian
Once more we descend into a sh*t fight, not one comment of theatrical importance just a stoush.
That is all that has been on this site for months now.
"By working together to promote each other's work, we build a culture of participation in the performing arts that will yield benefits for us all. Remember we all thrive on each other's considered contributions, generous praise and thoughtful criticism."
For all our sakes, grow up, take a cold shower, take a deep breath, count to ten, what ever it takes and let us return to some well considered comment, please.
