Please be careful!!!
Spend more time researching how actors become actors. Nicole Kidman or Al Pacino never begged on web sites.
Are you all getting the message yet?????????
A few people have been generous and mentioned ways of going about becoming an actor, such as crgwllms and A Director, but you guys just don´t seem to be getting the picture.
THIS IS NEVER GOING TO WORK!
Stop it before someone gets hurt.
Please take this one seriously.

Not meaning to poke fun at your typo, but being wary of "miss-guided" enthusiasm seems perversely apt.

Great point, can we have permission to include that at the top of a proposed FAQ page..?

Re: Please be careful!!!
Finally someone has said something, it is true, no one is ever going to give any one of you a role in anything let alone a play or a movie. Actors train and train for years and its a struggle. Its wonderful to see that people have dreams, but my word of advice is that wait until you have worked on your craft for a little while prepare material and then go to auditions and find out what its like, and good luck to all of you, this website advertises auditions in every state.
Please let there be no offense taken.
Re: 16 year old requires acting job
Suggestion?
seems to me that a lot of kids are attaching posts on to similar ones that are already on the site of the "give me a job i'm great" type. is it feasible to delete these messages so as to discourage this type of posting and also to stop kids using a search engine and finding them here? if we just start of on a clean slate so to speak perhaps we would have less of these annoying posts and there would be less chance of some sicko finding these email addresses etc and getting into contact with kids. again just a suggestion...

While it might restore a measure of sanity, deleting any posts smacks a little of censorship. We don't really want to prevent these people from ever coming here, we just want to redirect into some more constructive and less disruptive ways of achieving their goals.
It's entirely possible to intercept people arriving having googled for "teen" , "audition", "model", "15 year old" etc and provide these people with a modified version of the page that includes information directing them to an FAQ targetted at teens.
At this stage I'm just waiting for the ITA committee to come up with a draft of that FAQ.
Anyone out there care to assist?
Cheers
Grant

Personally, I disagree.
Who am I, or you, to say that the sort of fan worship apparent in the Richardson thread is any more or less appropriate than other similar fan postings about Lloyd-Webber, Shakespeare or anyone else?
I'd be quite disinclined to set the rules for others beyond the sorts of broad provisions on the home page:
"You are actively encouraged to use this space as a place to discuss your work, promote your products and debate the performing arts scene. [...] By working together to promote each other's work, we build a culture of participation in the performing arts that will yield benefits for us all. Remember we all thrive on each other's considered contributions, generous praise and thoughtful criticism. "
Granted, it's occasionally worthwhile redirecting discussion in a more fruitful , constructive direction. Entirely without detailed rules and censorship that's what has consistenly happened on this site over the last six and a half years.

The elegance of chaos theory is that from the most simple sets of rules we can create complex, beautiful systems.

Yep, fair enough putting it that way. It's just that it is so disappointing to see the "idiots" who perpetuate some of those threads without knowing what it was/is all about in the first place.
I would probably be just as inclined to want to have a thread "dealt with" even if it were about any of the great literary giants and/or composers if it degenerated to the levels that some have.
And no, I have nothing against any of those writers/composers in saying that. Just that it wouldn't matter who it was.
(As the threads get longer, so they take even longer to load the page it makes you wonder if the system has stalled)
Re: Thanks!
I shall hereby cease and desist.
Re: Thanks!
i guess i didnt really think about it like that...
have to admit that ive posted on those lloyd webber/shakespeare subjects and i personally would hate it if my posts were censored... guess its a difficult position to try and stop nuisance posts when they aren't a nuisance to everyone...

Does that mean you are 'bored' to act or 'born' to act?

Re: Come Audition For Us!
Re: 13 year old requires acting job
No one is going to hire you off this page... everyone that visits this site wants an acting job... so why do you think that you will get one just because you say that you are enthusiastic... I'm as aspiring actor too, but i'm not stupid enough to post "hire me" on this page. A few words of advise and people have tried before but it doesnt seem to be doing anything. 1. Instead of sitting on your computer at home writing "hire me" why don't you go to google and look up... Acting casting calls Brisbane or sydney or where ever... the best way to start in unpaid and gradually you work your way up to paid... 2. Get experience... get involved in as much theatre as possible... take acting lessons and give people a reason to hire you... look up workshops in your area and take some of them to... the more experience the better the chance of being hired and 3. Don't expect anything to be handed to you on a silver platter because it won't be... we have to work for everything in life, and acting in probally the most competitive profession in the world... so don't walk around thinking that just because one person said that you have amazing talent that you do... not to be rude but people have said it to me as well and it hasnt gotten me anywhere... get out there and do the work for yourself... also... if you cant get work yourself then dont think that getting an agent will change this dramatically!! Best advice ever told to me... Being a good actor is 15% talent and 85% dedication... Hope you take this advice seriously!!! Best of luck -Nici

Re: 13 year old requires acting job
any kind of job
hi.....
i'm a member of gove arts theatre and i have been acting there for 2 years now. i am 15 years of age, i have brown hair, green eyes, i love acting and dancing but i hate singing out loud in front of people, but in my house when no-ones home is okay.
the first play that i ever did at G.A.T was "Ma Bakers Tonic." My friend amber and i played two members of the "purity legue" and then towards the end we were ciggarette girls. the play was set back in the whole moulin rouge time. it was all about dancing, singing, little gold dresses, high heels and stockings. you would of loved this play!
i'm in anothier play that will be showing in 1 week.......i think.
it's called "the apple", it's prettty funny, i'm the only 15 year old, all the others are about 12 to 14 years old.
well, good luck with your acting career and hopefully we'll both be walking the red carpet together in the future.

Re:12 yr old need acting job
Re: 12 YEAR OLD LOOKING FOR AN ACTING JOB
while i have spent a while reading this page i have noticed that alot of people write about the money involved. i used to go to singing classes than changed to acting and i have also done all kinds of dancing such as tap, jazz, ballet, calasthenics and lots more. i have seen heaps of plays and musicals. i loved rahl dahls withches by the people in my area and i sore the musical cats a while ago and still have the song macavity stuck in my head. if i got a job as a cast member on a musical it wouldn't matter to me if we got paid $0 or $10 000 as long as there
is acting involved and lots of fun im there.
if anyone knows any musical auditions in perth please send me an email asap. evanescence_rock_on@hotmail.com
thanks for reading,
yours ever so hopeful jazmin

Re: 13 year old requires acting job
I've been wanting to do this for three years and thats about how long it's taking to build up enough confidence to do this.
I'm pretty good at acting my mom says i'm a "Drama Queen" ( I agree)
I can cry and well do anything. This has been my life long dream and i'm hoping you are the one that can give me a chance to fulfill it. Or else i have to be a Lawyer which would be really neat but im kind of looking foreword to being a actress!
Thanks For Your Time!

13-15 year olds who "require" acting job
TO ALL OF THE PEOPLE THAT STARTED THE 13-15 YEAR OLD TREND.
It may shock you to know that "requesting" jobs is absolutely pointless at your age. Because pro-am shows like Class Act's Bully Busters are performed during the day, when all of you would be at school.
[%sig%]
I'M 13 TOO
I'm thirteen which seems to be the age alot of these girls are. And I want to be an actress just as bad as all of them, if not more. But (And I'm not bragging) I do it the right way, I learn materieal and I learn it and I get better at it. Then I try out at some auditions. I've been to about five auditions and got into three of them (One of them was a small character in a movie). You will NOT get auditions by posting on this site-What kind of director is going to choose a desperate needy cyber girl, or a polished one who has an agent? Not many thats all I can say. And Bob is so right, one day if this carry's on, someone is going to get hurt. So polish some material, get an agent, but if you can't afford an agent keep looking at this site, as Grant said, theres auditions in every site.
Regards
Abby Nicole.
Come on girls...wheres your self pride?
Tips for young aspiring actors
Ok so by now this topic is pretty much flogged to death and we're all mighty bored, but bear with me...
To all those young people who have been posting these "please give me a go" ads, I sympathise.
You have a dream, you want to act on it but you're not sure where to begin, so here's a helpful website and maybe just maybe if you put up your hand you'll get the job.
But everyone just complains about you.
Unfortunately, that's showbiz.
So here are the Tips:
1. don't post your details unless in specific reply to an audition notice cos it's most likely that if the auditions already up don't mention a character in your age bracket, we just dont know what to do with them.
2. for younger people, community theatre is a hard area to get a foot in, {see Luke Heaths note on performance schedules}.
So...try EVERYTHING else.
Join a youth theatre that will be more involved in weekend work
Talk to casting agencies
Enter talent competitions, do street theatre, busk
If you're a little older, volunteer with local theatre for usher and front of house. When that pivotal part does come along this gives you connections with those in the know.
Everyone wants to be in the spotlight but at your age life experience is what will give you the edge in the long run.
All very annoying but all too true.
And here ends the latest addition to this ongoing spiel of encouragement and irritation.
If it means anything.
Good Luck!

Yes, and the more important reason you forgot to tell them is it's a complete waste of time.
Also, it's pointless at ANY age, not just school age.
And finally, I doubt any of them are bothering to read what you've posted. They are expecting someone to contact THEM, and have not bothered to read any of the previous advice offered in abundance. So it may be shocking to realise that I may be the only one listening to you Luke. Which is pretty pointless.
By the way, I believe Class Act pays its performers.
Cheers
