Probably because they have never-to the best of my knwledge- ever come to the ITA's notice.

I was certainly not aware that any such company existed.I supect that there might be a few like that who stay purely local. Busselton for instance, don't know if Margaret River Theatre Co is still in existance.

Thankyou, nice to know for future reference allthough I think I'll give the festivals a miss this year! re: finleys I was more pointing to the irony of people being upset about 'pro's' directing for community theatre. When most of the complainants would make a ton more money in whatever their 'real' job happens to be. :)

Country Theatres

Thank you, I am sure that there are quite a few country groups, we used to have nearly as many country clubs as members as metro ones, but many have obviously fallen by the wayside- Waroon for instance.

Busselton were members a long time ago but chose not to renew, same with the Margaret river group and Geraldton, and yes we did write to them, Merriden joined in 2008 after an absece of a few years but slipped out again this year.

I didn't say that these country companie didn't exist, it's just that they obviously don't see any benefit in belonging to the ITA. which is a pity as any organisation is only as strong as its members allow it to be.

For Country clubs it's a $1 a week, not exactly  a fortune!

Firstly thanks one and all for all your comments.... Its great to see such lively debate and that you all have opinions... In response to some of your comments .... I did ask, and here I am, asking more... I am not a theatre person, just a normal community minded person - i don't know whats out there so its hard to find out sometimes, until you stumble onto forums like this one - and may i point out, the only reason i know is because i am part of a group who does know?? Information has to start somewhere.... ... Extra effort for country people? I really am just referring to the sheer availablity of basic things - like gaffa tape and fabric, which can take a few weeks to arrive in town once you run out of them - not to mention sponsorship depending heavily on the "market price" - little things like that can make the difference between a show going on and being cancelled. ... I wasn't suggesting a country award by any stretch, maybe just a little nod - which you have done quite well in this forum (thanks jmuzz) but you are also right - it does depend heavily on who is running the show, the team - unfortunately it has been my experience that the team is different each year and it makes it hard when you don't have the technical knowledge you had last year as they had to leave town for a job. If the end product is all that matters, then so be it. And finally thanks for the list of country theaters, i have friends in most of those towns so I will now be able to encourage them to attend, if not participate!! Happy New Year!!
