The Web by Kate Mulvany

(text taken from a Perth Theatre Trust E-Newsletter)

Inspired by an incident in the UK, The Web is a world premiere from West Australian playwright Kate Mulvany which explores the effects of social isolation and cyberspace crime. This gripping new mystery is a nerve-wracking eye opener, exposing the desperate mind of a tech-savvy teenager. Tickets are available online now through BOCS Ticketing.

Two teenage boys become entangled in a twisted web of mind games and manipulation in an internet chat room. Travis is a confident overachiever, head boy at his school and future heir to his successful father’s farming empire. Fred is shy, isolated and traumatised by the suicide of his father. When Travis unexpectedly takes Fred under his wing, offering to help him with a social studies assignment, a new world opens up to Fred, providing promises of new friends and a new life. As Travis’ experiment begins, an intriguing chain of events is triggered, secrets and lies are exposed, and we bear witness to a vicious attack.

Uncovering the dark side of modern friendships and dissecting the promises and dangers of the online world, The Web is showing at the Playhouse Theatre from 26 September to 11 October. Click here to book your tickets online now.
