Poet's Corner
Sunday 21 June 2009
Funny how inspiration can pounce upon one at odd times.
I've been sitting here all evening, enjoying the company of my wife over a good meal, whilst taking in some Miss Marple, and I suddenly have the urge to join a fencing club, write a play, go for a walk (as the first step in yet another scheme to lose weight), and suggest what I'm about to suggest... A poetry corner!
Yes, think of it: A little section of the site devoted to posting snippets of verse, pieces of poetry, streams-of-consciousness, and snatches of fanciful thought hastily written down in a mad moment of inspiration. People could post their work for others to critique and advise, test the waters for new ideas, or simply share their feelings with rhyme (but not necessarily with reason). The process, methinks, would need to be a nurturing one, since poetry is often a baring of one's literary soul.
Sadly, Walters are known to be attracted to such displays, not unlike moths to the proverbial flame.
To be honest, I don't know if the the idea holds about as much water as a colander on holiday in the Sahara, since issues such as copyright (among others) must be a consideration; as well as arguments along the lines of, 'Why do we need a Corner when people can post their work in blogs?' etc. Nor am I certain if someone else has suggested this before, so I hope I'm not treading on any toes.
All I can say is... whatcha reckon, folks? Do we need yet another reason to express ourselves? I turn the question over to you.
Cheers, Freddie
