Wanted: Actors for Seedy Dance Class
Monday 20 April 2009
I have the honour of directing the next Phoenix Theatre season - a comedy entitled "When They Send Me Three And Fourpence" by the late lamented Aussie playwright Steve J Spears (of "Elocution of Benjamin Franklin" fame).
Based in suburban St Kilda in the early sixties, the play is about the various characters who attend the church hall dance classes and why. There are six in the cast, at least one of which is required to play some piano and the rest of which are required to display various ballroom skills.
I will be looking for a middle-aged alcoholic lothario, a middle-aged frustrated spinster, a long-suffering pianist and confidant, a gormless youth, a token multi-cultural and an ingenuous 18 year old ballerina who doesn't mind being groped by a middle-aged alcoholic lothario (no, not me!)
A play-reading will be held on Tuesday 05/05/09 @ 1930 @ Phoenix Theatre. Season dates are June 25,26,27 and 28; July 1,2,3 and 4.
Enquiries: Peter on 9339 1809.
