Lead Female Actor/Singer in Original Blues/Gospel Musical

Looking for lead character for an original musical. The lead character is a 30ish female, down-to-earth with a rather abrasive attitude who has left her husband and is looking for a new direction in life. The musical is genre-based with the majority of the songs in the blues-roots/gospel style and a couple of more traditional show tunes. Experience with these styles, the ability to sing in different styles and with a strong voice will be essential (if you think you can do Liza or Bette you’re on the way). As the character is the main focal point and appears on stage almost continuously, you would need quite a deal of stamina and be comfortable with some degree of physical expressivity (if you can dance say rock n’ roll style all the better but at least the ability to move confidently will be required). The show is scheduled for a pilot production in the first or second week of either June or July so the rehearsal period will be reasonably intense.
