Jerry Lewis and the Stolen Car

stinger

Thursday 9 November 2006

Unlike the salubrious bars at Melville, Garrick, Marloo and Roleystone Theatres, the one at the Dolphin usually closes post-interval, leaving the after-show hangers-on (usually consisting of cast, crew and close personal friends thereof) floundering and gasping for liquid refreshment. Because of this, the 'Cosi' mob has taken to occasionally adjourning to a nearby hostelry known as 'KK's' (but still known affectionately to yours truly as 'the Broads') for a wind-down chat, drink and perhaps improptu karaoke performance. On one such a recent occasion, having braved the hordes of ardent admirers at the stage door, our hero 'Jerry (you have to see the play to get it) Lewis' led this motley band of living legends in the expounding of philosophical theories on all things theatrical and the sinking of pints of amber fluids, although the march to the karaoke stage was stolen by 'Julie the Junkie' with her superb rendition of the Aretha Franklin classic, 'Re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-respect' (I think it was)...anyway I digress. All of a sudden, the clock struck midnight and young Jerry was simultaneously struck with the wierd idea of going home, probably to get his beauty sleep in before fronting up to the dumbells at the gym in the morning. He hastily bid a bientot to one and all and scarpered, leaving the rest of us to linger over last drinks before we too succumbed to the lure of the fart-sack. Not three minutes had ticked by before our fearless leader reappeared, ashen-faced, with the stunning announcement "my car has been stolen"! As one, we sculled our glasses and leapt to our feet, fortified by alcohol and the knowledge that if we ALL ran after the thief in the stolen car, we'd be surer of a result. As we headed for the car-park, one wisehead was heard to ask of our Jerry "..er..are you sure you parked on this level?" Need I go on? Suffice it to say the erstwhile missing automobile was rapidly recovered, Jerry was left looking a little merino-like and the rest of us slunk off to our respective digs, flats, houses, burrows, abodes and shacks. (You have to see the play to get that too). FOOTNOTE: 'Cosi' is still on at the Dolphin Theatre, UWA for three more nights with good seats still available but hurry!
