A Laughing Matter it is too!
Tuesday 21 October 2008
Even last night's tech rehearsal at the Dolphin - stop/start and long stretches of standing around - usually the height of tedium - managed to get some chuckles out of the crew. Idle actors also amused themselves playing charades in the wings.
Tonight is our first costume run and tweaking session. Again, historically not the most exciting phase of a production, but getting close to it. By my estimation, we should all hit our peak on Thursday, ready for a a huge opening night on Friday 24/10/08.
To this point, the rehearsal period has been one of the most enjoyable I have ever experienced. Everybody involved in the show knows their job and does it well. We have no prima donnas, no shirkers and no backbiters in this cast and crew. In short, It has been heaps of fun.
The play itself, set in the West End of 18th Century London, is very cleverly written. Real life characters like Samuel Johnson and David Garrick are blended easily with the fictional. We still chortle offstage at the free-flowing jokes ourselves, so audiences are in for a good belly laugh - as well as some top-drawer eye candy (the latter including not a reference to myself). The skilful direction of Sue Lynch, the beautiful costuming by Merri Ford, the highly professional light, sound and set designs are all coming together in the wonderful UWA Dolphin Theatre in what promises to be a brilliant piece of theatrical entertainment
So who is in it? Well, I consider myself privileged to be in the company of Barry Park, Grant Watson, Tom Rees, Martin Forsey, Peter Bloor, Peter Clark, Allysha Cleeman, Meredith Daniel, David Bruce, Susan Flood, Sonia Marcon, Desiree Crossing, Stephen Greenacre, Michelle Berg, Peter Dawson, Laura Djanegara and Domini Anderson.
'A Laughing Matter' (GRADS) runs 24,25,29,30,31 October, 1,5,6,7,8 November 2008. See you there!-)
