King Lear- The Fool

Hi guys, I'm currently working on a scene from King Lear for my performance studies unit at uni and was wondering about other theatre minds take on the fool. My tutor has informed me that there is a theory that the Fool is actually Cordelia in disguise keeping an eye on her father. The only evidence I see for this is King Lears words when Cordelia dies "my poor fool". I heard that their have been productions put on of Lear that have played the Fool as Cordelia and would be very interested if any one knows of any websites on those productions, or has seen or been involved in one? I've been googleing but it has so far been largly an unsuccesful exercise. Personally I think playing the Fool as Cordelia would make for an interesting and a very emotional performance. As poor Cordelia watches her father descend into madness, so much so he does not even recognise his own daughter. So any thoughts or opinions? Was the Fool intended by Shakespeare to be Cordelia in disguise? Or is it just an interesting take on the play that could be used to add depth to Cordelia and the Fool's character's? Love to hear your thoughts! Ruhama
