Why so precious?

Just a question...as a new member to this site, may I ask those that regularly contribute, why is there so much bitchiness and back stabbing? It would appear that many who express an 'opinion' are very quickly shot down when there views are not matched with others. Unfortunately, critisism is often too personal and therefore lacks real credibilty. The biggest debate seems to be those of you who are involved in community theatre...you guys are getting (it would seem) very single minded when it comes to reviews or criticisms. I wish people would just accept that all contributions to the arts are valid, but also accept that the quality of community theatre varies and accept that! I read on here the other day someone going on about how community theatre is as qualitative as professional theatre! What, are you insane? How can it be? I think if we are going to get it right we need to accept the limitations. Im sure people will reply by getting on their high horse stating exceptions to the rule and there are of course numerous examples...but that is not the point. The point is that the two cannot be compared rather be seen as two seperate entities, with the similarities being that they both seek to entertain.
