Advice to make it on the "darker side" of theatre.
Friday 12 September 2008
Hi, my names Aaron, I'm seventeen years old and about to finish year 11 / start year twelve and I absolutley love working backstage in theatre, particularly musical theatre, it is my one great passion and the only thing I can picture myself doing in the future.
Since I was about twelve years old I have been working with a regional theatre company and have worked my way up to the current lighting designer. We recently finished a run of Jesus Christ Superstar and are about to strat a season of Pirates of Penzance. My goal in the future is to work as a stage manager/designer/director on the West End or Broadway. I know it's a long road to travel but I do, without sounding stuck up, believe I have what it takes.
Next year during year 12 I want to apply to NIDA for their three year Bachelor course in Production. I also want to apply to ACTT (Actors College for Theatre and Televison) for their one year Advanced Diploma of Stage Management as a back up incase my plans for NIDA collapse.
I have started my on my road of training by currently doing a Cert III course in Live Production, Theatre and Events and completing work experience with Opera Australia, I will also be doing Work Placement with Kookaburra Musical Theatre Company in October/November for a week on their production of "Little Women"
My question is, does anybody have any advice for me as tohow I can increase my chances of succeeding in my goal for Broadway/Westend?
Again, this is what I want to do as a career, there's nothing else I want to do nearly as much.
Thanks,
Aaron. :)
