Chess by Balmain Light Opera Company last night (15 May 2008) should not have been put on for the paying public. It damaged the repuation of Sydney's community theatre.Ensemble work suffered from continuous poor starts.Obese male leads with coats open to excentuate their repulsive guts were off putting.Music was unbalanced with drums played loudly more like a poor school band than an adequate pit group. The difference between the quality of last night's production and Willoughby's recent Beauty and the Beast at glenn street is like chalk and cheese. Please Balmain do something. The cast needs it and we the audience demand it.
