Finding roles and working co-operatively with your agent.

Hey I am an 18 year old actor, doing performance studies at curtin university, i have done numerous stage productions and short films as well as advertisements. I signed up with an agency not too long ago but I am not happy with the level of communication I am recieving with my agent, For starters I only recieve emails from my agency and those emails are mostly just flyers for upcoming shows or short film launch events. I am not sure whether it is I that should initiate contact by calling my agent or emailing them because I am not sure if they are doing all they can to find me work? any assitance would be kindly appreciated.
