Why do people feel obligated to go to drama schools?

I am a 20 year old third year University student and doing a difficult Musical Theatre Dissertation. The title is: The extent to which the musical theatre performer feels 'obligated' to undertake training at a specific institution in order to fulfil their vocational potential, with specific reference to Guildford School of Acting (G.S.A) and Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. Are there any academics or people working/ related to the industry able to shed some light on this topic? Or able to direct me to people with knowledge!
