Possible winding up of SA Writers Theatre

SA Writers Theatre

Monday 23 April 2012

Well; SAWT has reached what could best be described as a cross roads. I know this has happened before but none the less I feel that it is necessary to bring this issue to what remains of the membership. At last count we had 8 financial members and are completely unable to elect a Chair or most of the Board. We have a Treasurer this year which is an improvement over last year. We also have an Artistic Director and a Secretary. We really can’t commit to Sundays with SAWT as we have almost no members to set up or run them and produce soups. At the last meeting we discussed this at some length and have come to the following suggestions. The next monthly meeting due on Tuesday 8th May at 7.00pm will be a Special General Meeting, called as per section 13.1 of the Constitution. If you wish to attend and vote at this SGM you will need to be financial before the meeting. Cheques or money orders can be sent to PO Box 818, Kent Town SA 5071 Please remember only full writing members can vote. Full membership is $60.00 or $35.00 concession. The Audience Representative Position is open only to an Associate member. The following motions will be put: Motion 1. “That SAWT ceases to operate and donates the money to a suitable organisation that has the same basic objectives, such organisation to be selected by the SGM.” If this motion fails volunteers will be called for to fill the vacant positions on the Board. If the vacant positions are filled the following motion will then be put: Motion 2. “This Special General Meeting of SAWT authorises the Board of Management consisting of the members elected at the AGM and the members endorsed at this Special General Meeting to govern the affairs of the Association until the AGM in 2013.” If the vacant positions are not filled the following amendment to clause 8.2 of the Constitution shall be put: Motion 3. “Should membership drop below 15 financial members, then a board consisting of at least a Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary may operate the Association until the financial membership numbers increase to more than 15.“ [Clause 8.2 reads: “The Board of Management shall consist of a Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Audience’s Representative and one additional Member elected by an Annual General meeting of the Association.”] Motion 4. That SAWT reduces its commitments to meet every month and meets every other month and does not attempt to present a Sunday with SAWT or a workshop until membership has increased.
