Theatre in the beautiful Kimberley
Saturday 10 December 2011
For the past 3 months, I have enjoyed the position of chairman of Theatre Kimberley - as far as we know, the ONLY theatre group based here in Broome. As such, I would describe it as 'semi-professional' rather than 'amateur' community theatre.
Over the last few years, TK has been better known for its 'Worn Art' and 'Sandfly Circus' productions than its mainstream drama. We had been rehearsing an adaption of an Oscar Wilde play retitled 'An Ideal Broome Husband' which was due to open last weekend but a vital actor came down with a nasty illness and we had to cancel. Last Monday night we had our Christmas break-up and everyone is keenly looking forward to our next production, an old-time music-hall - with a Kimberley flavour - to be produced by yours truly and going up (hopefully) in March 2012.
Any theatre groups thinking of touring the Kimberley next year please contact me via this website and we'll see what we can do to facilitate.
