Virgin Director - Poor Showing

Labrug

Tuesday 30 May 2006

Saturday the 27th of May, about 12:30, I was looking forward to the auditions for the Garrick One Act Season, and particularly, "Quake". I got there around 12:45, a bit early but the traffic was strangely quiet. Shortly thereafter, our first auditionee arrived.

1pm passed by and no-one else had turned up. Eventually a few others began to show and the Auditions for "Awakenings" commenced. I ended up reading for the male parts as NO MALES TURNED UP even though there were two good roles in that play.

I was still expecting a big turnout for the 2pm session. After all, I had received a WEALTH of enquiries via e-mail and phone. 2pm came and went. Very little changed a couple of extra auditionees did appear specifically for "Quake" but nowhere new what I had been led to expect. Between the three plays, we required 8 women and three men of various ages. What we got were 6 girls and two men (both of whom were trying out for the same role.)

I feel sorry for Sarah who walked away with nothing from the day. I walked away with three positions filled and Jean-Marie is sill looking for an older women out of three parts. So in the past couple of days I have been stressing about with finding a couple of girls to fill the last two roles (and hopefully I have achieved that as we speak.)

So the question becomes, where were you all? I know two were unable to make because of other commitments and that’s fine. I had about a dozen expressions of interest and only three of those turn out? Very disappointing.

Well, now that the casting looks like it is sorted (hopefully), I have to find an assistant for the show. So the hunt begins again….
