A Collection of Various Selves
Thursday 28 July 2011
The Independents 2011
Co-presented by Metro Arts and Liesel Zink & Nicholas Paine
Who are you really?
Amongst your 140 character tweets and quickfire status updates, where do ‘you’ stop and your creation begins? Are you Frankenstein’s monster or the doctor? How do you reconcile all the selves that you create in the collective social spaces you walk/ party/ sleep/ eat/ live through every day? And when something monumental devastates a community, what gets stripped away in order to evoke what’s real?
A Collection of Various Selves is a physical examination of contemporary behaviour premiering as part of The Independents 2011 at Metro Arts. Choreographer Liesel Zink – together with an eclectic crew of movers and shakers – deconstructs personas and personality. An interrogation of happiness and happenstance, this is a feel-good movement work on the trials and tribulations of feeling good.
