Exploring Shakespeare starts this Wednesday
Monday 13 June 2011
The Western Australian Youth Theatre Company invites emerging theatre practioners to investigate, collaborate and celebrate the work of Shakespeare in a series of practical sessions at the King St Arts Centre, Murray St Perth.
The second of four seasons of TheatreLab performance ensembles in 2011 is about discovering the skills of playing Shakespeare in the 21st century. Commencing on June 15th and taking place over three consecutive Wednesday evenings at King St Arts Centre in central Perth, we seek emerging theatre practitioners with a practical knowledge and understanding of Shakespeare who wish to engage with others discovering in depth the power and performance opportunities presented by Shakespearean text.
On June 15th, come with a prepared and memorised monologue, or come as a group of two or three and play out a scene. Facilitated by senior member, acting tutor and director Garreth Bradshaw, this is your opportunity to get in-depth encouragement and feedback.
There are a maximum of 12 places available on this season, and you will be expected to attend every session. Preference will be given to senior members under the age of 26 over 18 years old. Refreshments and a hot meal will be provided. There is a small fee of $20 attached to participation in the season, and we are currently looking at booking a tutor from Bell Shakespeare to lead a session, or a similarly experienced practitioner locally.
We are requiring membership of WAYTCo to attend. Please see the membership page of our website for more details of becoming a member.
