One Act Play Competition for Year 11 and 12 Students
Thursday 15 April 2010
The South Australian Writers’ Theatre (SAWT) is pleased to announce its 2010 One Act Play competition.
SAWT is keen to encourage young people to explore the possibilities in writing for the stage and accordingly is promoting this competition to find young playwrights of tomorrow. The three winning plays will be presented at a rehearsed reading in September 2010.
SAWT has been operating in SA since 1985 and assists its members in developing their work and preparing it for production. Over the years a number of plays from SAWT have received productions around the world. The plays are put through a process of readings and workshops culminating in a rehearsed reading using experienced actors under the guidance of an experienced director. Six rehearsed readings take place each year. SAWT presents a full scale production of one play each year either on its own or in association with a production company. At the 2010 Fringe Festival SAWT and Spotlight Theatre Co presented Ross Barrett’s “Final Round”.
The competition is now open and entries will be accepted until 5.00pm on 23rd July 2010.
There is no specific theme for this competition although the Judges may show a preference for plays dealing specifically with issues relating to young peoples lives in Australia today.
A small entry fee of $10 will be charged to cover administrative costs. This amount must be paid by cheque or money order within 7 days of the lodgement of the script electronically. If the payment is not received the script will not be considered.
The judging panel will be drawn from the Arts Community in SA and will consist of experienced playwrights and directors.
Further information and the full rules for the competition can be obtained by contacting SAWT Chairman, Tony Moore at: sawtchair@sawt.org.au.
