Australian Talent Agency scams
Friday 19 February 2010
To whom it may concern,
I am a freelance journalist from Queensland, and I have tasked myself with writing an article on the Talent Agency scams of Australia.
These scams involve agencies taking interest in industry newcomers and veterans alike, contacting them with a proposal of representation, then charging upfront fees including professional photos. After people have paid the amounts, the agencies cease to acquire any professional work for them and do not respond to attempts at communication.
I realise that this is an old and sensitive topic, one which has been discussed in depth on this site. For that reason, this is the best place for real-life stories and quotes from the people who are directly affected.
I am looking for people with ANY history with these agencies to contact me via my email (free123@live.com.au) with their stories and experiences.
Contacts must be able to publicly display their full names in the article or else the story will lose authenticity.
I will not be portraying any personal opinion one way or another on this issue, that is just plain bad journalism. Instead, I will let this story speak for itself through the quotes people are willing to provide me.
The more people who know about this the better, and the best way to do that is through the world's most effective form of mass communication: the media.
So if anybody wishes to contribute to this story, please contact me asap.
Thank you.
