Warning: Subtle Promotional Posting Contained Within
Well, I am exhausted. It's been a heck of a week, and one hell of a weekend. "The Admirable Crichton" is gearing up for its final rehearsals and it has been a real rush. The cast, whom have all been ready for over a week now, have shown their patience and consideration, and have been so very supportive. I think we honestly have the makings of a great show.
It may not win any awards. It may not make best show at the Finley's but that was never the point and really doesn't matter. (So why make a point of it!) The reason for making a point of it is that while I doubt I will be getting any directorial nominations, there are a number of my cast members and crew that really do deserve a nomination at the very least.
As director (and still a little green around the edges) it is really great to work with a cast that are highly responsive and team focused. We have all worked really hard, together, and the general air of interaction and camaraderie has been wonderful. I have worked on, in some capacity, 41 productions now and have seen close night cast/crew productions and disfunctional ones. The shows that have worked have been those that have worked well together, not those were rivalry, undermining and back-stabbing played any part.
With a cast of 21, around 60 costumes 3 very different sets, it was by no means a large undertaking, possibly a lot larger than I had initially visualised. No, it WAS a lot larger.
Now we ehad into production season with one more rehearsal tonight and a Preview on Wednesday. Then we OPEN on Friday. Then it is three weeks of pleasing the patrons. Come and see it. Come and see if we did make a great show. Tell us afterwards. Any publicity is publicity. ;-)
