Call for Submissions: 4Play

4Play is a quartet of stories about love, sex and death that will premiere on stage at Slide in Oxford Street in February 2010. The producers of 4Play are seeking suitable original scripts to become part of this fabulous new show that will run for 7 performances over 3 weeks at Slide cabaret during the Mardi Gras Festival season in the second half of February 2010. This production will showcase some of the best contemporary Australian Gay and Lesbian drama and comedy. From wickedly funny, to just plain wicked this night of theatre will feature a stellar cast of some of the hottest men and women on Sydney’s stage. It is envisaged that this show will feature a range of complex themes and viewpoints from the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer community (GLBTQ). Writers need not identify as GLBTQ, but their stories must have a GLBTQ theme and represent GLBTQ people positively. We are looking for writers who: > Have a script that runs around 15 minutes and is suitable for theatre/cabaret, > Are interested in working with the 4Play’s producers in a collaborative environment, > Are capable of adapting their work to the constraints of the production and the cabaret style venue. If your script is selected, we will provide: > A director for your script, > A full cast of capable performers, selected at auditions in December 2009, > Seven or more public performances of your piece in a high-profile 100-seat venue, > Technical crew - including lighting, sound, stage management, > Two general lighting states (not including a black out), > A photographer for promotional photos and archival materials, > Networking opportunities > Publicity and promotional support - including a Season Launch. You will: > Provide a draft script via email by 5pm Friday 4th December 2009, > If required, be willing to re-write and refine your script by 18th December, > Be open to meeting with the directors and attending rehearsals, > Be able to provide full rights to your work for this and subsequent runs in 2010-11. Your script needs to: > Be 12-18 minutes in length and can be drama or comedy (or musical!), > Have no more than four cast members, > Be able to be performed with only two lighting states (not including a black out), > Be able to be staged within the financial, technical and practical limitations of the production and venue. Timeline: > You must submit your script, with your name , address, phone & email on cover page, no later than 5pm Friday 4th Dec 2009, > All successful applicants will be notified by e-mail no later than 5pm Wednesday 9th December 2009, > Auditions will be held 12pm-6pm Sunday, 13th December 2009, > Rehearsals will be scheduled between mid January and mid-February 2010, > Production will commence mid-February with the following dates planned (the season may be extended): Monday 15/02/2010 Tuesday 23/2/2010 Wednesday 24/2/2010 Thursday 25/2/2010 Monday 01/03/2010 Tues 02/03/2010 Wednesday 03/03/2010 Selection Process: All submitted scripts will be read by the 4Play production team and a short-list of plays will be prepared and writers advised. The production team may hold table reads of the short-listed scripts and will make the final selection prior to auditions being held. Writers of scripts not short-listed will be advised by 5pm Wednesday 16th December 2009. Payment: Writers will be paid an equal portion of the co-op, together with producers, directors, crew and performers (up to 16).
