Side By Side By Sondheim Audition Information
We Invite you to come and audition for "Side By Side By Sondheim" to be presented by Plenty Rangers Theatre Company. We are looking for a cast of eight people, four males and four females. Each cast member will have the opportunity to perform in ensemble numbers, solos, duets and trios. "Side By Side By Sondheim" is a celebration of Stephen Sondheim's early work up through "Pacific Overtures". It is also the only official Sondheim review to contain music written by other composers with Sondheim's lyrics. The show contains 30 songs and a running narration, which would be split between the male cast members. So it will involve a lot of work. Part of the concept of this show is that the whole cast is onstage for the entire show. When you, as cast, are not performing you will be either involved in another cast members performance or watching from somewhere onstage. So you will also need to possess the ability to be very focussed and still intent on another's performance - even though you will have witnessed it many times before.
The creative team is looking for talented, enthusiastic, dedicated people who are open to working hard, in new and challenging ways. The lyrics of Stephen Sondheim are often extremely difficult, the music is intricate and the meanings behind the pieces are always truthful and complex. Due to the complex nature of the material we are looking for people no younger than 16 years old. Please, if you are not interested in working hard - do not audition. We have a short rehearsal period for a very demanding show.
Audition Requirements
We require you to prepare two songs of contrasting styles, one up-tempo and one ballad.
Choose a song that -
*Shows your vocal range and style.
*Shows your ability to interpret the true meaning of the song.
*Preferably has complex rhythms, lyrics and meaning.
*Feel free to perform a Sondheim song.
*Bring sheetmusic in book form or bound together - no loose pages.
*No backing tracks allowed.
*Be prepared to have the creative team work with you on your prepared song choices.
*Arrive at the audition venue at least 10 minutes prior to you scheduled audition time in order to fill out an information sheet.
*Please bring a current performance CV and if possible a non-returnable photo.
