Calling for actors for a Melbourne Fringe show to run at the Croft Institute from 21 September to 1 October.
From the people who brought you the 2004 Fringe smash hit, Sakura Mansions, comes Death and Downsizing. A liquorice black farce about modern corporate life where skulduggery, deception and greed are not just commonplace, theyÂ’re best practice.
If you could just about murder the next person who says theyÂ’re enhancing shareholder value, then Domination Corp. is the workplace for you.
Death and Downsizing will be directed by Paul Canlan.
The production is on a profit-share (co-op) basis.
The characters weÂ’re looking for are:
Brian Slowthe (30-40s)
Brian is a jaded business journalist who has become lazy and disinterested in his job. In his younger days Brian was quite the investigative journalist; however, he lost his drive after he exposed a prominent businessman as a pervert and he committed suicide. Despite himself Brian has a long-term crush on Sunday.
Sunday Bright
Sunday is an uptight PR chick. She feels like she is carrying the world on her shoulders and that the most inane details are extremely important. Sunday takes the company mission statement seriously and has no sympathy for those who donÂ’t follow the rules. Sunday can find the win-win situation in any scenario and spin any situation to her advantage.
John Gallows (40-50-60s)
A self-made man, John Gallows has build his mining empire from the (under)ground up. Despite his lofty position as CEO of one of the largest mining companies in Australia, Gallows is true blue to his working class roots. He would be more comfortable arm-wrestling his opponent than having to sit through a business management powerpoint presentation.
Allister McAllister (Macca)
The General Manager and king of business management speak, Macca suffers separation anxiety when he canÂ’t find his mobile phone. Macca is a social climber and brownnoser who will use any means possible to get to the top. MaccaÂ’s interests include jogging the Tan, talking about his recent conquests (loudly on his mobile) and forging his work experience.
Lavinia Devine
As PA to the CEO (John Gallows), Lavinia’s military training comes in handy. She manages to hold off aggressive shareholders, battle takeovers and disable dangerous situations in a pair of stilettos. Inappropriately cheery and relentlessly servile, Lavinia has a dark secret, she is addicted to purchasing war memorabilia – regardless of whether she can afford it or not.
Siobhan Lamb
Siobhan is only working as an admin assistant until her artistic career takes off. The question is when will celebrity call for a multi-media artist concerned with ‘the dialogue of spaces’? Siobhan has a chip on her shoulder about working at Domination Corp. She feels she has sold out to the corporate enemy. She should be working at Amnesty International or Greenpeace, but the problem is they don’t pay as well as Domination.
Auditions will be held on Monday (18 July) and Tuesday (19 July) at the Croft Institute (end of Croft Lane in the Melbourne CBD).
