Trading Fates, written by Matthew Lutton, tells the story of Mearel, who resides in a world where everybody has a masked, black figure walking in their shadows who prompts their actions; fate. In this world, whenever human interaction occurs, it is possible for these “fate figures” to swap, which accounts for the change of direction in people’s lives. Mearel has a troublesome and stubborn fate that will not leave Mearel in peace, so Mearel begins a journey in hope of having her fate removed. This work, based on Italian folk tales, is told using a stylised form of physical theatre. Very little dialogue is spoken, and the show is performed on a near empty stage. All the images are created through the actors using their bodies to develop images, through gestures, movement, acrobatics along with music and lighting. The piece is a demonstration that a story, involving detailed imagery can be told simply through the physical body and music, and that elaborate set and props are not necessary.

We are looking of a cast of 9 (4 males, 5 females) for a two week season in July/August of this project. This is not a dance piece, but will incorpret ideas from contempory dance.

We will be holding auditions on the 13th and 14th April, from 9 - 1 each day. (An additional afternoon on Sunday 14th may be added) You will be asked to attend the full four hours on either day to participate in a workshop in the style of the show. You need not to prepare anything, just come warmed up and ready to experiment. The auditions will be held at the Subiaco Theatre Centre upstairs in the rehearsal room.

Please contact Matt on 0421 782 721 or preferably on email at lhlutton@iinet.net.au to book a time.
