Auditions for the play "Summer of the Aliens" will be held at the Garrick Theatre on Sunday February 17 at 1:00 pm.
The production will run from May 10 to May 25 2002
THE CHARACTERS
Narrator: the older Lewis - from 45 up.
Lewis: 14 - 22. A sensitive boy with an imaginative mind, trying to make sense of the world around him. Has a tough mate, Brian, and a close friend, Dulcie, from next door.
Dulcie: 14 - 22. Tough on the outside but can show moments of tenderness to Lewis. Horrible family life with mother and step father.
Norma: 30's to 40's. Battling single mother of Lewis & Bev. Grandma lives with them to help financially. Worn out & embittered.
Eric: 30's to 50's. Charming, feckless, restless absent father of Lewis, who reappears in their lives, creates mayhem, then disappears again.
Uncle Richard: 40's to 50's. An actor, considers himself to be a bohemian artist. Small but good part.
Bev 15 - 23. Lewis's sister. Tough, self reliant & friendly girl.
Grandma 50's to 70's. Loves Lewis. Lives with daughter. Widow. Hates the Poms. Thinks Norma should have married better than Eric.
Mr Irvin 35 - 50. Very tough, course, ex-criminal. Bully. Wife beater. Child abuser. Small but great part.
Mrs Irvin 35 to 50. Obsessive, puritanical, nervous, worn out battler.
Beatrice 14 to 20. Dutch migrant girl, shy, lonely, clings to Lewis, which he hates. Small part but good. Be able to pronounce some Dutch phrases and say four letter words with a smile. Small but memorable part.
Mr Pisano 40's to 60's. Excitable, self-important Italian migrant postman.
Brian 14 - 22. Larrikin, hooligan, sex-obsessed schoolmate of Lewis. Dad is a crim and this is a great part.
Japanese woman No dialogue. Just walk on, slurp tea and look exquisite in a kimono.
