Mickey Johnston and Eddie Lyons
2 wonderful roles for experienced men aged late 20's-early 30's. The twins, separated at birth, are not identical but need to have the same colouring and should be around the same height. However talent and experience are the major prerequisites. During the course of the play, they age between 7 years old to late 20's.
Mrs Johnston
Female - aged 35-40. The boys' lower class mother. Also has to age 20-odd years over the course of the play. An unglamorous role for an experienced actress but one of great complexity and a wonderful challenge. The ability to sing is also necessary (Please note: although this is the play version, the "Marilyn Munroe" song still exists at the play's opening).
Mrs Lyons
Female: aged 35-40. Eddie's middle-class adoptive mother. Aging as above. Arguably the most difficult role in the play as we see her slow descent into madness. Looking for an experienced actress not bent on making her histrionic and melodramatic.
Linda
Female: mid-20s. Childhood friend of both Mickey and Eddie. Ends up marrying Mickey but is Eddie's true love. The woman who is the catalyst for the tragic ending to the play. Stunning role for the right actress.
Sammy
Male -aged late 20's / early 30's. Mickey's older brother. A lout and a hooligan. An evil influence on Mickey's life. A nasty piece of work. Also ages from a child to early 30's. Actor will also double in other roles so versatility essential.
The Narrator (who also will also double as Mr Lyons, Bus Conductor, Teacher, The Milkman, Policeman and Doctor)
Male: age open but prefer 40's. A tour-de-force role for an actor with strong vocal capabilities. His presence is strongly felt throughout the evening as he comments on the action of the play in the wonderful Willy Russel verse.
Please note that a Liverpool accent is required for all parts and, although not strictly necessary at auditions, an ability to do accents will be tested.
Auditions will commence from 11:00 AM on Sunday 28th April, and on Monday 29th April at 7:30 PM, running at 15 minute intervals.
Call backs may be required during the following week for potential Mickey and Eddies.
The season will run from 4th July 2002 to 20th July 2002
